Often when a sports team wants to reach the next level, they will go out and bring in veterans to help them achieve that goal.
That is exactly what Lim Kit Siang had done when he brought in Mat Sabu and Amanah as well as the ‘3 M’ package consisting of Tun Mahathir, former deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Mukhriz Mahathir along with dwindling remains of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).
Having them on board was supposed to be Lim Kit Siang’s Pakatan opposition Key to the Malay vote and victory in the upcoming 14th general election. But as happened previously, Pakatan Harapan’s Malay face (in the collective sense) failed to deliver the goods; the Malay crowd.
In the weeks and days leading up to the ‘Love Malaysia End Kleptocracy’ rally, DAP-led Pakatan most certainly got wind that the crowd size would be small, which is probably why they turned down using the stadium; it have been would have been too obvious.
Realizing that they did not have the numbers, Lim Kit Siang and company were probably hoping that the police would stop or interfere with their event. In that way they could play victim and say that the masses were turned back thus having an excuse for the low turnout.
However the police allowed the event to take place without interference. In doing so, it was very obvious that there was a weak turnout. In addition to the events lack of size, the rally seemed to mirror Bersih in that it mainly the Chinese that show up.
However even that is not saying much as Lim Kit Siang also had trouble pulling in ‘his crowd.’
So the overall lack of numbers makes one think:
Was the small size of the crowd due to Malaysians getting tired of the same old rhetoric that Pakatan opposition spews whenever they have the chance?
Do Malaysians find it hypercritical that the very same DAP-led Pakatan that has organized the ‘Love Malaysia End Kleptocracy’ rally has within it ranks those who paint a negative picture Malaysia internationally as well as having ‘top dogs’ who been accused of kleptocracy?
Perhaps the message that was being sent to the DAP-led opposition is; first clean up your own house before accusing someone else of having a dirty house.
A dirty house (DAP-led Pakatan) along with dirty politics may be the reason why their Malay faces failed to do what they were brought into the coalition to do; deliver the goods (Malays)!
