Pakatan Doesn’t Trust Each Other; How Can They be Trusted to Govern Malaysia!

AzminAli Rafizi

If Pakatan Harapan is having all types of trust issues among themselves; how can they expect Malaysians to trust them with the nation?

Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali went behind DAP-led Pakatan’s back to try to pull PAS back into the Pakatan opposition camp even though DAP-led Pakatan issued an edict saying there was to be no contact with PAS.

It seems that Azmin knows that without PAS, not only will Pakatan have little chance in the next (GE14) general election, but there is a great possibility that he may be out as the Selangor Menteri Besar.

Not wanting to face that prospects of being jobless, Azmin Ali has for some time been trying to entice PAS back into the fold.

Again he has been doing this against the orders of the coalition.  Therefore, one has to ask; does the Selangor Menteri Besar have cart blanch to go against coalition wishes or are his actions systematic of how dysfunctional things really are in Pakatan Harapan?

Unfortunately for Azmin Ali and DAP-led Pakatan his effort has not provided the dividends that he had hoped; PAS has recently rebuffed DAP-led Pakatan’s overtures by stating that it never really wanted cooperation with their coalition.

Of course PAS saying no will do little to dissuade DAP-led Pakatan. They (PH) know that the general election is probably months away and still find themselves in desperate need of Malay votes.  As such, don’t be surprised if you hear about Azmin once again going against the coalition’s directive and try to coerce PAS into returning.

But Azmin Ali is not alone with it comes to running roughshod and doing one’s own thing in the DAP-led Pakatan opposition.  alone.

Recently, Latheefa Koy has come out and said that Rafizi Ramli was the architect behind the now infamous ‘Kajang Move’.

You can read the sordid details in the following link.

Latheefa had seemed to be willing to hold on to this info until Rafizi started to publically point the finger elsewhere.

It seems that Rafizi has not heard the expressions; Let sleeping dogs lie or don’t stir up the hornets’ nest!

With the combination of political backstabbing, breaking rank, infighting and airing out dirty laundry in the public; one has to wonder how a coalition in such disarray can ever hope to govern a country when it is very apparent that they do not have enough discipline to manage events within their own coalition.

Perhaps Datuk Seri Hadi Awang saying that PAS does not trust Pakatan Harapan due to the unfolding events in Pakatan and other issues PAS feels are important.

Given the events which are taking place in Pakatan Harapan, it is of no surprise that PAS does not trust them.  In fact, if Pakatan can’t trust each other; how can Malaysians trust them with the nation?

Pakatan Harapan And Minions Prayed Their Fate Would Not Rest On GE14!

It is safe to say that Pakatan Harapan (DAP, PKR, Amanah) hoped that their fate would not have to come down to GE14 as that would without a doubt be the proverbial straw which would break their collective backs.

How things have change.  This time a year ago Pakatan Harapan along with Tun Mahathir thought that 2016 would have them installed as the kingpins and certainly the king makers in Malaysia.  However, instead of being kingpins they found themselves as bowling pins being knocked down repeatedly.

It may have also been around the same time when the unnatural alliance of Pakatan Harapan, ANC, Tun Mahathir and their assortment of other players were prematurely patting each other on the back for a job which they thought was well done.

The job in reference was to remove the democratically elected Prime Minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Najib Razak from office.

The cohorts may have even gone so far as having discussions on which cabinet posts would be given to which party; in other words diving up the spoils of war.

However, what they probably did not discuss at that time was the release of de-facto Opposition leader Datuk Anwar Ibrahim from prison.  After all why would that even be discussed as the Opposition conglomerate believed that victory was at hand without his assistance so they seemed more than content to allow him to finish his time behind bars.

It was also around a year ago that many people believed that Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali was making his big play to become the new Opposition leader or at least to land a higher post in government.

Perhaps while Azmin Ali was dreaming of his next big move, Tun Mahathir was already licking his chops over the idea that his son would soon be one position (DPM) away from becoming Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Still while all of this dreaming was going the Opposition grossly overlooked the most important factor in all of this; the rakyat.

Pakatan Harapan and all of those with them have failed to understand that it is because of the trust the rakyat has in Team Barisan Nasional and Prime Minister Najib Razak that they have been given the mandate to lead the nation.  It is this mandate which has to be of concern for Pakatan Harapan as they and their cohorts have all but admitted that they cannot defeat Barisan Nasional in a straight fight.  That is why Pakatan Harapan, Tun Mahathir et al were hoping to unseat Najib before GE18.  They knew that if he were still in office prior to GE14 that would be a clear signal that they were defeated.  And the last time I checked, Najib Razak was still in office!

The Probability of Pakatan Harapan Winning GE14; The Same As Seeing Halley’s Comet In 2018!

Pakatan Harapan is beginning to realize that the probability of their coalition winning GE14 in 2018 or earlier have the same odds as sighting Halley’s’ Comet in 2018; less than zero!

Just to put that in perspective consider the following fact about Halley’s Comet:

Halley’s Comet is arguably the most famous comet. It is a “periodic” comet and returns to Earth’s vicinity about every 75 years, making it possible for a human to see it twice in his or her lifetime. The last time it was here was in 1986, and it is projected to return in2061

Think over that….Seventy Five (75) years.  That would almost explain the fading experiment that made up the Opposition.  The last victory for the then Pakatan Rakyat (now Pakatan Harapan) was in 2008.  Since that time the only noise they made of any political note was Selangor.  So if 2008 was the tail of Opposition blip on the political scene then they will have to wait until 2083 or thereabouts before they make their next appearance of any significance.

Knowing that victories have been few and far between, Pakatan Harapan led by the DAP has switched to full confused panic mode.  There are those in the coalition like Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali trying to make overtures to PAS even though the obvious leader party in Pakatan Harapan (DAP) no longer want to deal with PAS directly as they (DAP) view PAS as having spurned their love.

Amanah who left PAS and who are now taking their running orders from the DAP also do no not look happily to PAS coming back to the Pakatan Harapan fold as that would relegate them (Amanah) to even lesser significance than they presently have in the coalition of unequal’s!

Also trying to emerge from political obscurity are both former DPM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir.  Both of these men, if you do not count Tun Mahathir make up the top two (2) posts in Parti Pribumi Bersatu or Pribumi.

Muhyiddin and Mukhriz have of late been trying to find their voices on the political scene.  We have seen them during their recent press forays make statements on forming a grand opposition coalition with PAS included and showing up at Anwar’s court appearance all in an effort to pump like in their own political careers and to try to keep Pribumi in the public eye.

What they (Muhyiddin Yassin, Mukhriz) as well as Tun Mahathir are saying is that they believe that they have as much chance of winning GE14 as they have of spotting Halley’s Comet in 2018.  In fact, Tun Mahathir who tried to in an undemocratic manner to unseat Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is hinting that they Citizen’s Declaration and all the other gimmicks have failed.  Mahathir says if the Malaysian rulers do not act on his ‘Citizen’s Declaration’ the only choice is to follow the democratic approach (novel idea) and leave the rakyat to decide at GE14.  (here)

The DAP with their Pakatan Harapan surrogates also know that Tun Mahathir’s failure is their failure as well as they were intricately joined with him (Mahathir) at the hip.

Now Pakatan Harapan’s realizes that the probability of their GE14 victory is the same as spotting Halley’s Comet in 2018!

The Opposition Will Stop At Nothing To Con Malays For Their Votes!

LKS Buffer

With all of the Opposition”s recent chatter over whom their candidate is, one cannot help but to see how desperate they have come of late.  Pakatan Harapan is hoping that by there mentioning the name of their jailed de-facto Opposition leader’s name (Datuk Anwar Ibrahim) that it would carry favor within the Malay community.  In doing this, it further proves how out of touch Pakatan Harapan is with the rakyat in general and more specifically with Malays.

Does Pakatan Harapan think that the Malays do not know that Anwar Ibrahim is in Sungai Buloh prison and that he is still associated with the Opposition?  Malaysians are well aware of where he is and why is there.  His (Anwar Ibrahim’s) being the Opposition leader in any capacity did not help bring in votes in Sarawak, Sungai Besar nor Kuala Kangsar.

When the collective votes were tallied, it was obvious that the Lim’s (Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng) Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, former deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir, former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir and Anwar Ibrahim were all ineffective in the efforts from near and far to bring in the votes needed to secure any semblance of a win Pakatan Harapan.

In looking at the disarray which has become synonymous of Pakatan Harapan’s existence, a line from a nursery rhyme in the West sums up how dysfunctional they (Pakatan Harapan) have become:

All the kings’ horse and all the kings’ men could not put Humpty Dumpty (Pakatan Harapan) together again.

Even prior to the elections mentioned the Bersih 4 fiasco proved that a large segment of Malaysians did not support what the DAP led Pakatan Harapan stood for.  If nothing else, the lack of the Malay presence proved that Malays see behind the tricks of the Opposition and by large choose to be supportive of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the government.  That is why the rakyat through their votes in East and Peninsular Malaysia gave Team Barisan Nasional the mandate to continue to lead.

The Opposition knows that they do not have a chance of pulling out any type of win in GE14 without the Malay vote so early on they hoped that bringing up the GST and 1MDB would bring out votes for their (Opposition) cause.  Seeing how that did not produce results they attempted to recycle Tun Mahathir thinking that he would be enough to create some sort of tsunami of Malay votes.

Again, their effort met with colossal failure as Tun Mahathir was literally a non factor.

Now, they are trying to recycle the name of Anwar Ibrahim trying to create some interest in the Malay community.  The Opposition even mentions his name and the job of Prime Minister in the same breadth to get Malays to bite on an invisible apple. (here)

The Anwar card seems to be their (Pakatan Harapan’s) default tactic when they have nothing else and no one else to fall back on.  However, Malaysians and Malays in particular cannot be easily fooled; they have become well aware of how the Opposition will do and say anything in their desperation to con Malays for their votes!

Azmin Put In His Place; Now Says PKR, Mahathir Alliance Needs Anwar’s Approval!

It was not too long ago that Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali was positioning himself to sideline both Datuk Dr. Wan Azizah and her incarcerated husband; de-facto PKR leader Datuk Anwar Ibrahim.

During his own little coup attempt in the making, Azmin Ali was giving the impression that he was making the shots for the party and therefore did not to seek Anwar Ibrahim’s and especially Datuk Wan Azizah’s approval. We all remember this:

His actions were in direct contradiction to the position his own party PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat Pakatan) and their alliance partners in Pakatan Harapan had taken.    In his public persona of speaking for the party, Azmin Ali hoped to gain a ground swelling for his takeover bid.  On Wan Azizah’s part, she could do little more than make excuses to try and cover what amounted to a house (PKR) becoming divided.

Azmin Ali’s next move to embolden his position was to try to and hedge his political bet by aligning himself with Tun Mahathir’s ‘Save Everything but Anwar Campaign

It is worth noting that saving Anwar was as important to him (Azmin Ali) as it was for Tun Mahathir (when he didn’t need him) ranking right up there with getting a root canal just for the heck of it; which should make it clear that Azmin Ali was happy with Anwar Ibrahim snuggled up right where he was in Sungai Bulow.

After it became clear to Anwar Ibrahim that Tun Mahathir’s ‘Save this and that’ rally did not include him; Anwar had his wife pull the plug on any PKR participation.   However, that did not deter Azmin Ali from continuing to work with Tun Mahathir ‘Without’ Anwar Ibrahim’s approval.

Mahathir and Azmin

After all, Azmin Ali probably thought that Tun Mahathir was his quick path to not only becoming the head of PKR, but a possible future deputy Prime Minister’s post.

Azmin Ali like Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin believed it was sooner rather than later for him to move up the political ladder.  However, like Icarus whose wings of wax melted when he tried to fly too high; Azmin Ali crashed after the private PKR letter was conveniently made public.

With Anwar’s direct/indirect warning to Azmin; Azmin knew that he had to make a hasty retreat way from Tun Mahathir least he too would end up like Muhyiddin Yassin; outside looking in.

These days Azmin Ali is singing a different tune; where not too long ago he was acting as if he needed no approval, he now says any political alliance with Tun Mahathir has to be approved by Anwar Ibrahim.

Perhaps it was Muhyiddin Yassin’s sacking that scared Azmin Ali back to political reality

Azmin Ali’s Early Jump From Mahathir’s Sinking (Pribumi) Ship Came In The Nick of Time!

Mahathir and Azmin

Call it foresight, women’s intuition or ‘the letter’. No matter what you call it, Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has to be as happy as a rescued Titanic passenger as he takes stock of what could have happened had he crawled completely into bed with Tun Mahathir.

And we were all witnesses to how he was snuggling up to Tun Mahathir during the public Save Malaysia circus. During that period, it looked for all means and purposes like Azmin Ali was making a play to set sail with Tun Mahathir.

Around that period, Azmin Ali’s actions and persona gave the impression that he was in open defiance against his party’s (PKR) leadership as well as the wishes of Pakatan Harapan in general. This defiance was demonstrated in both his publicly attempting to get PAS to rejoin the Opposition (Pakatan Harapan) fold and in his jumping on board Tun Mahathir’s now pretty much defunct ‘Save Malaysia’ hullabaloo or as Shakespeare would say; Much To Do About Nothing!

In all that he was doing during that period of time; Azmin Ali seemed like a man who believed that he had not one, but two (2) winning lotto tickets and was just waiting for the right time to cash in.

On the one hand he could neutralize Datuk Wan Azizah and vie for the post of PKR president and on the other hand he could tag along with Tun Mahathir and be Mukhriz’ deputy Prime Minister somewhere in the distant future.

Which ever  plans he had made, Azmin at some point realized that he was in possession of bogus lotto tickets! This reality caused Azmin Ali to retreat from Tun Mahathir and silently slink back into the shadows of Selangor. Many to this day still speculate to what caused Azmin to do a 180 from the course he had set sail on with Tun Mahathir.

Whatever prompted his backtracking from Tun Mahathir he is no doubt elated now as he sees the ship called Pribumi taking on water and starting to sink.

The ship’s taking on water must be largely placed in the hands of its commander and chief Tun Mahathir who not only continued to make mistake after mistake in his miscalculation on what it would take to remove what he perceived as an obstacle (Prime Minister Najib Razak), but he compounded his mistakes by seemingly placing the ship in his acting captain Muhyiddin Yassin’s hands. It now seems like that latter decision may be the factor which tears a gaping hole in the ship causing Pribumi to sink.

While Tun Mahathir wants his son (Mukhriz) to be at the helm of the ship, does not want the appearance of what everyone already knows; which is he wants Mukhriz to be the eventual captain and commander and chief of the ship no matter if the ship is called UMNO or Pribumi. As far as Tun Mahathir is concerned, a ship by any other name is just as good so long as it can carry his son to the head of government.

The Selangor Menteri Besar is no doubt taking stock of all that has taken place (or in some cases has not taken place) every since Tun Mahathir failed to make any type of impact during recent elections. For him (Azmin Ali), Tun Mahathir’s ineffectiveness probably made him scurry for a life jacket or anything just as long as he could save himself before things reached the point of no return. Given all that is happening on ship Pribumi; Azmin Ali probably thinks he jumped ship in the nick of time. Or perhaps he jumped off an eventual sinking ship into what appears to be a growing Pakatan Harapan whirlpool!

Azmin Ali Wants Opposition Solid Bloc; PAS and Umno Cooperation Might Fulfill His Wish!

Prime Minister and Hadi Awang

Fresh off of the bludgeoning Pakatan Harapan had taken following the twin by-elections; Selangor Menteri Dato’ Seri Azmin Ali suggested that the Opposition should form a solid bloc! (here)

This is something that many believe should had taken place some time ago, but not in the manner that the Selangor Menteri Besar meant it!  What many have been eagerly awaiting for is a solid bloc formed with PAS and BN!  After all, that bloc is in Opposition to Pakatan Harapan!

Why should Pakatan Harapan (DAP, PKR, Amanah et al) believe that it is BN on one side of the equation and all the other parties on the other side!  With Amanah being the exception; the DAP and Pakatan Harapan do not own exclusive rights over parties which are not joined together with Barisan Nasional!

The only reason there are fresh overtures to PAS now is because the Amanah project is just not bringing the ROI that the DAP was banking on!  Perhaps they (DAP) believed that just by bankrolling Amanah, telling which issues to not comment on and dressing them in orange, then that would be good enough to translate into votes.

What the DAP is waking up to is that their investment, while making Amanah as happy as a duck in a pond, is not appreciated by the people who still view the DAP as the puppeteer and Amanah as their puppet!  Even though a puppet show might be good for a few laughs; the people don’t want puppets or their master governing their lives!

In backing their pet (Amanah) project, the DAP arrogantly believed that they could garner the same PAS votes which they had before Amanah split from PAS.  Realizing that that will not take place; the DAP is now quietly hoping that the Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Azmin Ali, Datuk Anwar Ibrahim or anyone for that matter can cajole PAS back into the fold!

In order to save face, the DAP cannot directly reach out to PAS; they require a third party to mend bridges so that they can return to the days of agree to disagree!

However PAS has not been sleep over the past few months and clearly understand Pakatan Harapan’s latest overtures towards them (PAS) is based on the loses that were sustained in Sarawak and in the Kuala Kangsar, Sungai Besar By-elections! Pakatan Harapan would like nothing better than create some sort of animosity between BN (Umno) and PAS!

What the DAP and the rest of Pakatan Harapan do not realize is that Umno and PAS are not enemies.  In fact, on many substantive issues there is more commonality than many in Pakatan Harapan realize.  As a result of such commonality it is perfectly natural for those with positive interest to work together for the good of the nation!

What makes this type of cooperation work is that it does not necessitate PAS joining BN or vice versa.  What it does mean is that those involved understand ramifications of such team work!

In an effort to throw a negative spin on the above, the recently sacked (from Umno) former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir suggests that there has been a back door deal made between Umno and PAS involving Kelantan, Terrengganu, and Kedah. (here)

It seems that it is okay for the DAP, PKR and Amanah to work out seat allocation between them, but it is not okay for PAS and BN (Umno) to do the same, if they choose to make such a move!

For a number of years now, there are many who have long held the belief that there should be a solid bloc formed between PAS and BN (Umno); a collaboration of this magnitude would further benefit the progressive direction in which Malaysian is headed!
