Pakatan Harapan is a collection of political parties whom under different circumstances would be trying to devour each other.
In it you have the Lim Kit Siang and the DAP who loathe the PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohammed Azmin Ali because he was selected as the Selangor Menteri Besar instead of their choice Datuk Wan Azizah Ismail.
DAP view Wan Azizah as an easier target to manipulate and therefore wanted her as the Selangor Menteri Besar.
Then you have both the PKR president (Datuk Wan Azizah Ismail) and deputy president Datuk Seri Mohammed Azmin) who are having what amounts to an ongoing cold war because. This cold war steams from the fact the Selangor Menteri Besar (Azmin Ali) believes that he and not Wan Azizah should lead PKR, which is why he tested the waters last year to see if he had enough party support to challenge her.
Wan Azizah was made aware (as she may not have had a clue) that Azmin tried to mount a challenge for the PKR presidency. She may also now know that Azmin and others compromising PKR leadership secretly want her husband (Datuk Anwar Ibrahim) to stay in prison.
Looking more into this bad marriage we have the DAP and Amanah. For the DAP, Amanah is a prize you get that you do not really want.
For all of Lim Kit Siang’s disdain for the principles of PAS, he would still prefer to have PAS than Amanah. The DAP only accepted Amanah because they believed that they could sure up their Malay base support after PAS left the previous coalition. Unfortunately for Kit Siang and the DAP, Amanah failed to do their part to attract Malays.
It was probably Amanah’s failure to attract Malays which prompted Lim Kit Siang to try and offer PAS president Hadi Awang an olive branch. (here)
Adding to the marital mix you have Tun Mahathir who never liked Lim Kit Siang, but due to his (Mahathir) own lack of political strength has been forced to suppress years of dislike because he needs Chinese votes.
The same holds true for Lim Kit Siang; he never dreamed a day would come when he would be forced to work with Tun Mahathir; a man he spent most of his political career lambasting. However, Kit Siang still needs Malay votes and believes/believed that Mahathir could provide them.
However the political intrigue/prostitution does not stop there.
One could even speculate that Mahathir’s willingness to toss to the side former deputy Prime Minister now his party (PPBM) president (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) only proves that Muhyiddin like Amanah are not significant in the grand scheme of both Tun Mahathir and Lim Kit Siang.
For the public; Pakatan Harapan tries to give the impression that all is well.
There is Lim Kit Siang who refuses to comment on BMF so as to not place Tun Mahathir in an uncomfortable situation. (here)
And there is Tun Mahathir, who does not discuss Penang mansion prices.
Away from public view Pakatan Harapan plus one (PPBM) know all is not well.
The DAP, PKR, Amanah and Pribumi know that their politically marriage is in name only.
They also know that an off comment, backing the wrong Bill (RUU355) or criticism could cause any of the partners to walk out of the door!
