The DAP-led opposition has for the last several years embarked on a quest to find the proverbial needle in the haystack.
The coalition made up of those who had their sights set on removing the democratically elected leader of Malaysia (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak) worked around the clock to find something, anything which they could use to either exert pressure on the Prime Minister to step down or incite the rakyat to rise up and ask for the same to take place.
Each time the DAP-led opposition searched the haystack they came away with nothing but hay.
Lim Kit Siang and the DAP-led opposition along with Tun Mahathir looked at possible financial improprieties (1MDB), government programs (GST, BR1M) as well as the government bringing in business from other nations; in the hope of finding what they believed was Najib’s elusive needle hiding in the haystack.
In Tun Mahathir’s own desperation he had not too long ago resorted to saying that Prime Minster Razak had cheated back in 1999; prompting Communication and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak respond by saying that Mahathir was ‘scraping the bottom of the barrel” (here)
Some wondered if Mahathir will next say that during Najib Razak’s childhood he had eaten a classmate’s piece of candy and thereby should not hold the post of Prime Minister.
Imagine not wanting a man to be Prime Minister for eating another’s candy. One could only imagine how Mahathir would call for the Prime Minister or ‘anyone else’ to be disqualified from office over allegations of having improper relations with another man’s wife or another man!
It is not surprising that now we find Mahathir looking for the needle in haystack from the Prime Minister’s past; after all he like Lim Kit Siang and the rest who make up the DAP-led opposition have nothing else to grab onto.
They (DAP-led opposition) are like the person who mistakenly believes that they have lost contact lenses in a swimming pool they had swum in the day before. The person feverously attempts to clutch at the water (anything) around them only to come away empty after each attempt to snare the Prime Minister.
In their blind enthusiasm to pin something on Prime Minister Najib Razak; Lim Kit Siang, Tun Mahathir and the rest of the DAP-led opposition’s efforts are wrapped up into the idiom; searching for a needle in a haystack!
