In the darkest recesses of the minds of both Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng they may have entertained that thought that they could be Malaysia’s version of Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew and Lee Hsien Loong.
Of course, Kit Siang and Guan Eng would never admit to such, but the thought had most certainly been there just as Tun Mahathir has envisioned himself and his son Mukhriz Mahathir in the same capacity.
The problem that both Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan have is that they are seen as opportunist; looking to see what they can gain personally.
Perhaps this was the same situation in Singapore, but even that were the case at least they (Lee Kuan Yew and Lee Hsien Loong knew how to hide it.
The Lims recent actions or lack thereof makes one wonder if they believe that people will not notice their duplicity or that they are so far up in their ivory tower that they think that their actions are beyond question.
What else would cause Lim Guan Eng to believe that he could acquire that property and a ridiculously low price? As Menteri Besar did he really think that no one would make an inquiry or did he think that he could talk his way out of any problems he would encounter as a result of that purchase?
And what about his (Guan Eng) call for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to step down, but yet he (Guan Eng) refuses to step down even though the evidence seems to indicate that he has used his office and position as Penang Menteri Besar for personal gain.
We can also mention his (Lim Guan Eng) calling the four (4) elected DAP members who recently quit the party traitors, but yet did not say the same about those who quit PAS and formed Amanah or Tun Mahathir, former deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Mukhriz. (here)
Lim Guan Eng’s father Lim Kit Siang is no different. For years Kit Siang has talked about the evils of Tun Mahathir and the BFM scandal which is related to Mahathir’s time in office. Yet now because of some possible backroom dealings, Lim has apparently bartered away his principles for as they say; 30 pieces of silver.
Even with the chance to join the growing chorus to ask for questions on BMF Lim Kit Siang remains quiet. Some are speculating that the price for silence is the deputy Prime Minister post, if the DAP-led opposition were to win as well as a get out of jail free card for Lim Gun Eng, if he were to be a residence in ‘Sungai Buloh’ or a similar facility.
There have already been rumblings of discontent within the DAP camp over the Lims trying to create their own dynasty. Now with Lim Kit Siang’s embrace of Tun Mahathir and seemingly using the party (DAP) for personal gain, the kettle of discontent has started to boil over. Adding to this discontent is Lim Guan Eng seemingly following in his father’s footsteps by using the trappings of office for personal gain.
So perhaps the four recent departures are just the tip of the iceberg as there DAP leadership may be growing weary of both Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng. If so, the Lim dynasty may see the end before it starts!
