There is little doubt that Tun Mahathir’s cries to ‘Save Malaysia’ will come about, but not with the results he is hoping for. The way events are stacking up against Tun Mahathir, it may not matter if GE14 takes place in 2018 or sooner as all signs point to his and his DAP led Pakatan Harapan cohorts resounding defeat at the election polls.
For some time it has become apparent that the rakyat has grown tired of Tun Mahathir as well as the many antics he has employed in his attempt to remove Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak from office.
Over the last few years Malaysians have heard Tun Mahathir cry wolf, claim the sky is falling and suggest that there is a bogey man lurking around 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad) only to discover that the only wolf was Tun Mahathir dressed in sheep’s clothes, the only the thing that was falling were the many fabrications and lies that he slandered the Prime Minister with and the only ghost lurking around 1MDB was only a figment of his imagination.
What it all boils down to is Tun Mahathir racing against the inevitable Election Day clock in a desperate hope to somehow get the rakyat to accept his non suggestion for Prime Minister. I write non suggestion because when Tun Mahathir was asked for his choice of Prime Minister and deputy Prime Minister he went dumb; making it even more laughable when he (Tun Mahathir) promptly slated Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his son Mukhriz Mahathir President and vice presidents respectively when he formed his Pribumi political party.
However, Tun Mahathir’s less than stellar political line up did nothing to capture the imagination of the rakyat; which is probably why he is now trying to make nice with another declared political enemy.
Tun Mahathir wants to use Datuk Anwar Ibrahim to try and get Malay support in much the same way that he is using Lim Kit Siang and the DAP to get Chinese support. However, all of Tun Mahathir’s efforts are in vain as there is not much Datuk Anwar Ibrahim can do from Sungai Buloh and these days Lim Kit Siang has his own concern as his son is facing possible graft charges. In all his efforts to make alliances, there is one alliance that will not give Tun Mahathir what he wants and that alliance is with ‘Time’.
Time is the one thing that Tun Mahathir desperately needs, but sees it quickly fleeing from him. He needs more time to try and find a replacement for his beleaguered Pribumi party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin, time to apologize to the many others he may have hurt along the way and he needs time to stave off the inevitable; GE14!
Unfortunately for Mahathir, time is a luxury that he does not have and GE 14 will arrive whether he is ready of not!
