Penang Menteri Besar Lim Guan Eng made sure that his Muslim (Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon) and Indian (Deputy Chief Minister II P. Ramasamy) were front and center to show that he (LGE) has support across ethnic lines.
The two Hasnon and Ramasamy probably realize that they have zero to lose in their support for Lim Guan Eng. If Lim Guan Eng does not become a guest of Sungai Bulow, then his two deputies will come off as extremely loyal as they stuck by him. If Lim Guan Eng does get a new residence with the bonus of having Datuk Anwar Ibrahim as his roommate, then the two (2) deputies will still reap the rewards of backing their boss. They both may move one rung up to the ladder accordingly. So for Hasnon and Ramasamy it is a win win scenario even if Lim Guan Eng loses!
For Lim Guan Eng, it is important for him to show the rakyat that he has diverse supporters; something that the DAP could not pull off during Bersih 4. The lack of Malay and Indian presence showed the rakyat that Pakatan Harapan is heavily Chinese and that the majority of Malaysians don’t buy into the whole let’s link arms and smile for the camera as they (DAP)seem so fond of doing as of late.
Lim Guan Eng needs manufactured support to justify him not taking his and his father (Lim Kit Siang’s) own advice of stepping down from office when there is an investigation underway.
Both senior and junior Lim probably wished they had never called for that (stepping down) to take place. As Karma has it, the very thing that they (the Lims) wanted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to do is now the very action Lim Guan Eng should take to have any credibility. And if his father did not also share in his son’s hypocrisy, he (senior Lim) would have been the first to advise his son to step down!
Senior Lim not doing this (asking Jr. to step down) proves further that they (the Lims) place holding on to power as being more important than principles. What has become even more apparent is the squeaky clean image that both Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng talked about was a figment of their arrogant imaginations. When the Lim Guan Eng pridefully set himself and political party up as the standard bearers of good governance, there was only one direction they could travel; down!
Now with the house of cards starting to fall around him, (here) Lim Guan Eng can only point to political persecution as to why he is under investigation. However it would be more realistic for him to point in the mirror and think over the proverb that says; Pride comes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.
