The Opposition May Not Survive Another Election Loss!

Coming off the heels of a devastating loss in Sarawak; the Opposition is no doubt looking for a face saving win in the upcoming (June 18) Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections.

Even though they (Opposition) attempted to try and play down the Team Barisan Nasional win; the reality the Opposition had to face could not be played down.  That reality is that they are ship in the middle of the ocean having neither rudder nor captain and desperately hoping someone, anyone will climb abroad and steer them out of the mess that they find themselves in!

Datuk Seri Anwar can’t do it as he is limited logistically!.

Datuk Seri Wan Azizah can’t do it because her heart is just not in it!

Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali cannot because there are those within his own party and within the Opposition component parties who will sabotage him the first opportunity that comes along!

So the Opposition is left with Tun Mahathir, whose abnormal focus on Prime Minister Najib Razak has him making such mistakes as claiming 1MDB funds have vanished and that he has over 1million (‘bought and paid for’) signatures!

Trying to scratch out any semblance of victory, the Opposition and Tun Mahathir are still penning their political hope on 1MDB for the upcoming by-elections.

The Opposition put all their hope in  1MDB being the one issue that would cause the down fall of the Prime Minister and cause  have Team Barisan Nasional come out on the losing side of the recently concluded Sarawak Election and the upcoming (June 18) by-elections.

However, it is said that you should not put all your eggs in one basket as the pressure will certainly cause cracks.  And that is just what happened!  Internal cracks within Pakatan Harapan along with cracks in their credibility resulting from all the fabricated 1MDB stories they put out to discredit the Prime Minister!

As a result; what the Opposition and Tun Mahathir wanted to be an issue (1MDB) in the Sarawak election instead became a non issue and there is little doubt that the same will be true leading up to and during the by-elections in both Sugai Besar and Kuala Kangsar!

The Opposition (DAP, PKR, Amanah and Tun Mahathir) coming to grips with how ineffective the 1MDB tactic was in Sarawak;  will now try to scare the rakyat into thinking that the private ‘hudud’ Bill will have grave consequences on individual freedoms and the as well as the Malaysia economy.

Of course none of that true.  The Opposition has for many years been aware that ‘hudud’ is in place for Muslims and the tabled Bill only serves to strengthen and clarify what is already present.  The Opposition only wants the rakyat to see something that is not there!

It is like driving on the highway and all the cars slow down and passengers preen to look because someone said there was an accident.  However when you finally look, all you see is road construction!

The Opposition is telling the rakyat that the private ‘hudud’ Bill is the highway accident when in actuality it is only construction.  The only strategy the Opposition has is to use fear to try and gain support! Take away that and they have nothing of substance to offer!

As the by-elections quickly approach, you can count on the Opposition and Tun Mahathir to come up with more outlandish claims to try and scare votes their way.  What they should realize is scare tactics failed in Sarawak and will undoubtedly fail during the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections as well.

The upcoming by-elections may bring the Opposition to the proverbial fork in the road!

Pakatan Harapan (DAP, PKR and Amanah) can ill afford to come out on the losing side of the upcoming by-elections.  If they do; there will be no words which will help them spin credibility out of the jaws of defeat.  A defeat may also warrant the Opposition components to come out and say what they only dare whisper;  that they would be better off going their separate ways’!
